Sad passing of long term member of our association and friend

It is with deep sadness that we report the passing of Barry Horner. Although Barry didn't want it made public, he had battled with an advanced form of prostate cancer for a bit over a year and finally lost the fight on Monday 9th March.

Barry was well known for his humour as well as his hard work for our association and his bowling clubs. Barry played for many years at Grange and even after leaving the club to go to Brighton, he still went to Grange to help with BBQs and to support their social events.

Both Barry and Claire were also long term volunteers with Meals on Wheels.

Barry joined the RSL Bowls Association in 2002 and joined the management committee very soon after. Barry served as Secretary for many years, as President and Vice President, Consequent to his roles on the committee Barry also attended most National Council Meetings.

For his work for the Association nationally (and locally) Barry received the Meritorious Service Award in 2023.

Barry was a staunch supporter of the National Carnival - travelling to all events since joining the association and taking his turn as a selector.

In 2011, Barry was a member of the team that won the Dr. Sydney Krantz trophy at Tweed Heads BC.

We pass on our condolences to Claire and to Barry's family.

Funeral arrangements will be announced once known.

Barry will be missed by all in the association.
