RSL side succumbs to Wallaroo expertise
Sunday 18th August saw us travelling once again to Wallaroo for what has become a genuine tradition.
Starting the day with a lunch of Bangers and Mash, washed down with suitable liquid refreshment, our annual visit to Wallaroo Bowling Club was off to a great start.
Despite a few pull-outs on the RSL side, we managed to get 10 rinks of fours on the greens for two hard fought matches.
Played in great spirit, with more laughter than angst - and some dancing up the green - the match finished with a decisive win to the Wallaroo side.
Regardless of the fact that RSL had two of the three best performed teams on the day, our losing rinks were something of a drag on the overall result.
Wallaroo finished on 221 shots to RSL's 161
When you consider that two RSL rinks lost their games by a combined total of 65 shots, it's easy to see where the problem lay.
Best performed team of the day was that of Haydn Harper with Brad Jansen & Liv Piper (West Lakes) and Cameron Jamison (Modbury). Total score of 2 wins plus 24 shots was a truly stand out result.
Second prize went to Wallaroo's four of Daryl Carter, Graeme Harper, Russell Williams and Kevin Taylor
Third prize was taken by inveterate burglars Roger David, Brian Noble, Jim Nicholson and Howard Pretty - all from Brighton.
Perhaps the most excitement of the day was that of the winners of the "Encouragement Award" (aka NABA). Whilst there were a couple of strong contenders; for example, Terry Howard's team lost 2 games minus 20 shots, it was Rodney Watts four that took the prize with 2 minus 45. The roar was probably heard at the marina when Rodney scored their only shot of the day with his very last bowl.
Thanks to Wallaroo for the gift packs of glasses, stubby holders and chocolate for this particular prize.
